Introduction Module : Getting Started
From making the most of the course to choosing which regional accent you should learn, this module covers everything you need to set yourself up for success as you move through the rest of the course.

We’ll cover:

✔ Choosing which accent is best for you

Module 1: Mastering the Sounds of British English
We’ll kick things off by learning ALL the sounds required to speak British English. You’ll learn to accurately pronounce any word using the phonetic alphabet and how to position your lips, teeth, and tongue so your English is clearer and easier to understand.

You’ll learn:
✔ How to recognise and pronounce the sounds of British English
✔ How to read the IPA chart and use it to pronounce words correctly
✔ How to position your lips, teeth, and tongue to speak clearly

Module 2: Exploring Received Pronunciation

RP is known as the standard British accent – the one famous Brits like Emma Watson, Keira Knightley and Daniel Radcliffe have. This module is where you’ll learn to recognise and use its key sounds to express yourself clearly.

But we’ll also cover the differences between RP and other accents, so you can understand different people and adopt the pronunciation style you prefer.

You’ll learn:
✔ The 11 key sounds of Modern RP
✔ How to use and identify common sounds
✔ How RP sounds differ from other British accents

Module 3: Unlocking the Secrets of Fluency

Ever wondered why Brits are so hard to understand? Or how to speak more fluently? This module has the answers! We’ll dive into the features of connected speech, revealing the secret tricks and techniques YOU can use to sound more fluent.

You’ll learn:
✔ How to use simple techniques to speak more fluently
✔ How to understand Brits when they speak fast
✔ How to communicate in a variety of real-life situations

Module 4: Speaking Like You Live here

Next, we shine a light on how you can use stress and intonation to make your English sound more natural and fluent. It’s where we breathe life into your words and avoid that robotic ‘classroom’ English sound you’ve probably grown accustomed to.

By the time you complete this module, you’ll finally be able to decode what your British colleagues and mates are saying and you might even sound like one too!

✔ How to bring personality and life to your spoken English

Module 5: Untangling British Accents

Whether or not you want to use Received Pronunciation, it’s important to learn how other accents sound. So, in the final module, we’ll explore this crazy island nation through its diverse regional accents. By the end, you’ll feel more comfortable chatting to anyone, anywhere!

You’ll learn:
✔ Pronunciation features of the most common British accents
✔ How to understand people from different regions
✔ How to identify accents — or adopt one for yourself

Module 1: Really British Life & Culture
Module 1 is where we dive into the culture of the UK. From the history of the British flag to the best of British food, this module introduces you to all the things that are truly British. Other themes include historical British events, English football culture, the unwritten rules of British pubs, British stereotypes and so much more. It’s designed to help you integrate and understand the world around you and ultimately experience life like a local.

Module 2: Really British Words
Module 2 is where we look at the wonderful world of British English vocabulary. From Cockney rhyming slang to British idioms, this module will get you speaking like a local. You’ll learn all the words and phrases Brits love using, so you can connect with local people, express yourself more clearly and show your personality in English. There’s even a video all about Brits and sex (x-rated)!

Module 3: Really British Accents
Module 3 is where we study 6 of the most well-known British English accents. We look at the main pronunciation features of Modern Received Pronunciation, Cockney, Multicultural London English, Scouse, Mancunian and Geordie. The aim is to help you understand a wide variety of English accents, and with each video, there are practice exercises, so you can have some fun trying to sound like a local.

Module 4: Really British Conversations
In Module 4, we join Teacher Tom as he chats to a variety of people about all things Britain. From moving to the UK to popular English seaside towns, these light-hearted mini-conversations will bring you closer to what life is really like in the UK.

Week One

In week one we have a short introduction and then cover some super useful real-life topics

Highlights:

• Get suggestions for a new city with London expert Jess Dante
• Expand your vocabulary with the power of collocations
• Explain what you do for work like an absolute pro.
• Understand more about work culture in the UK.
• How to pronounce the dark L sound and use intrusion to link words together. 

Week Two 

In week two there’s a lot of emphasis one practical phrases to use in specific real-life situations like giving advice or recommending places to someone.

Highlights:

• Recommend places/activities to people.
• Understand and start using authentic British slang.
• Get essential language to help you navigate British pubs and pub etiquette.
• Learn how to talk about past habits and childhood memories.
• Sound more natural with intonation drills and learn how to pronounce -ed endings perfectly.

Week Three

In week three we keep looking at phrases for real-life situations and we also put an added focus on pronunciation, in particular techniques to make you sound more like a proficient English speaker.

Highlights:

• Make the right grammar choices to talk about your Instagram photos.
• Use polite intonation to make requests.
• Agreeing and disagreeing with ideas at work.
• Learn useful ways to keep your English up-to-date.
• Describe your symptoms when not feeling well in English.
• Sound more natural with pronunciation tasks that focus on connected speech.

Week Four

In our final week of the course, we touch on some everyday topics that will really help you thrive in English.

• Build your vocabulary through British phrasal verbs.
• Learn how to adapt your English to be informal, semi-formal or formal.
• Develop your vocabulary with the power of collocations.
• Learn how to make, accept and refuse offers politely.
• Share juicy gossip with these essential phrases.

Week One

Highlights:

• Ending a phone call with ease 
• Describing delicious food/drink naturally
• Rejecting an invitation politely
• Encouraging someone to try something new
• Accepting a gift in the most British way possible 🇬🇧

Week Two 

Highlights:

• Leaving a social situation in a polite way 
• Rejecting an idea politely
• Making someone feel welcome
• Enquiring why someone is late
• Sympathizing with someone who is unwell (the most British phrase ever!)🇬🇧
• to pronounce -ed endings perfectly.

Week Three

Highlights:

• Accepting an offer you know you should probably refuse
• Saying something isn’t right or acceptable
• Expressing disappointment (like an English football fan every four years 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿😉)
• Making a quick exit from a social situation
• Expressing gratitude for someone’s help like a true Brit!

Week Four

Highlights:

• Describing a really busy place
• Saying something is really annoying
• Being cheeky and blaming someone else for something
• Offering to help in a very British way
• Teasing someone lightly
